Here is a label from an Authentic Begg Scarf:

The label that they have does not look like that And while I can say that they sold them some close out seasonal merchandise at end of season it makes it hard to explain why they would do that with their solid Arran series which is the basic year after year colors.

Of course not. But it does, perhaps wrongly, make me more inclined to believe that they are not fake so much as legit products being illegally sold. But, then again, I'm biased since I'm currently bidding on one

I mean, they've got retail tags! If they are fake, I mean everything, props to this guy for making fake retail tags, product tags and bags. It's low, but it is immaculately executed.

Eagerly awaiting FIHTies and anybody elses feedback. I was outbid on the petrol blue yesterday and a gray one today. It looks like maybe that was a good thing?!

Seller has 100% positive feedback, that's another tip off which suggests he or she makes quick refunds as hush money to keep a lid on things.

I'd love to pick up a Begg at these prices too, but they are almost certainly fakes.

Although it is possible that these are fakes, it's worth keeping in mind that cashmere is available in Scotland at relatively steep discounts - it's made here after all, and I don't think we have any shortage of the stuff! I recently picked up a few cashmere scarves made by Johnstons of Elgin for around £25 each at House of Bruar in rural Perthshire. The MSRP on these scarves was around £95+. I think the seller is in Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland, where Begg is based, so these could be produced for the domestic market or factory seconds...

Or perhaps he provides quality goods at a cheap price and no one has a reason to complain.

This sounds far more reasonable than faking a little know brand.

The only difference is that one can get Johnstons of Elgin in the States for 50 dollars whereas Begg's usually retail for 200-325 dollars depending on size. That makes bargains the like of the ebay seller slightly more suspect.

I am not saying that its fraudulent. I am saying that in all thing where the bargain seems to be too good to be true, Caveat Emptor.

Here is a site that sells in the UK:

Their prices are 73.40 pounds for the smaller scarves (30cm x 150cm) less VAT (but more for shipping and customs). AND their Begg Label is like the one that I and SirSuturesAlot posted above and unlike the eBay sellers label that lists 100% Cashmere with no mention of Begg on the label.

Incidentally Begg did a second tier of cashmere two years ago called Crumbrea or something of the sort, I dont remember exactly offhand. I highly doubt they would label their factory seconds Begg and dilute the quality of the brand.

I really have no idea if they are fake and don't really care one way or the other, really... My main point is that I think you pay inflated prices for Scottish cashmere overseas and that the prices I've seen here make me think that it's possible that the goods may not be fake. For example, here are some Begg scarves from a local store in St Andrews that are pretty reasonably priced:

http://www.ccwclothing.com/shop/cashmere-scarf/

I shop at this store for my outdoor gear, and know that they are reputable sellers. No idea if they are in anyway similar to the scarves on offer at Ebay, but again, much much cheaper than in the US.
