can't remember if this has been my experience but ^

hopefully you're fine

UPS will deliver your package and you get an invoice via e-mail.

FedEx will deliver your package and you'll get an invoice in the mail. For both of them, it comes to around 10% usually.

DHL sometimes will hold your package until you pay, and other times will send you a bill. They pass you to collections when you don't pay on time. UPS charges a late fee, FedEx just keeps sending you bills. Also, DHL's customs always come out to around 20% for me. I typically won't ordered out of the US via DHL if it was over $200 in the past.

For Matches customs, I noticed if the value is over $800, the option where you can select or unselect DDP becomes available. Any cart total below that the option is gone.

You ordered after March 10 so there should be no duties since the order was under $800 (the new threshold), but yeah prior to the 10th fed ex would send a bill a week or so later. I ordered some CP's in late February from End for $360 and got a bill on Friday for $39 from FedEx so it's not a huge deal either way.

I'm hoping there are no duties because of the new threshold. But I don't know the details of the law and government works at such a slow pace I wasn't sure how long it would take to implement it. I asked about FedEx process of charging duties to see if there's any way to find out now if I'm duty free. I guess I will just wait a couple months and if no bills show up, we're good to go.

Also, good to know that if I do get charged duties it's only about 10%. Still sucks but not a huge deal.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Guys, I need some advice. I ordered from Rakuten and the seller did not mark the value of the package lower. I bought a used EG wool bedford for a reasonable price, coming out to $206 CAD and shipped through EMS. I came home to be slapped with a $67 customs and taxes charge. Now the taxes I get but whats with the duties? Aren't all EG items made in the US, so I shouldn't be charged for customs/duties? Furthermore, I talked to the postal office and they can't reduce the charges down in any way. So I'm planning on rejecting the package and let the postal service return it to the seller. If I reject the item and they send it back, I wouldn't have to pay for the duties and taxes, considering that I haven't actually purchased it, right? Thanks for all your input.

Here's the link to the item: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/rpfstore/item/10761888/

seller should charge you a restocking fee and you won't be refunded postage costs. This is entirely your own fault and honestly buyers that refuse to pay customs on items they have purchased and do crap like this are the worst types of buyers

Where in my post did I say that I was going to argue for postage costs? I fully claim responsibility for postage costs, not blaming anyone there.

But you are refusing delivery over $70, the seller then has to issue a refund and relist everything while having an item in limbo for a few a weeks. He might even be charged new import fees. It's just kind of a dick move for minimal money over something that you should have seen coming.
As for the reason of duties, it's usually just a fee the postal service takes for bringing the item through customs (it takes paper work).

Try www.viabox.com for a forwarding service. When you have an item forward, you enter the value so if you're buying at a discount you can enter what you actually paid for the item. They also multiple carrier options, so you can find the one that priced right when they reship to you.

Has anybody ordered from Frans Boone before?

I just noticed on their site the following:
"Starting March 10, 2016, imports of merchandise up to USD 800 of retail value will be allowed into the United States free from duties and taxes by one person on one day. This excepts Clearance taxes that are collected by the shipping company (in our case UPS)."

If I purchase a pair of CPs for $294.16 what would I expect to pay for the clearance taxes?

Thx in advance.
