I know that these aren't Tricker's, so a little off-topic, but I thought that you might all like to see what Richard and his team did for my Cheaney Mallorys. A less-popular sole these days, but very well deserving of a revival ... the ITSHIDE Golfer. Super comfortable and I am delighted with the result. Miles better on this boot, and much more interesting, than the original Dainite studded sole:

Thanks again, Richard.
Richard's great. I just bought a pair of Alfred Sargent Kelso's from him. Looking forward to getting them.

Moral .... if you have a pair of boots that you aren't quite happy with, a resole might be all that is required to turn them into an object of desire.

Big thanks again to Richard, Michelle and the team.

It's timely that you should mention this. I have a pair of Trickers with a Gumlite sole that I've never been that happy with and I've been considering asking Richard if he could convert them to a leather sole - I think you have just made up my mind!
Do you mind me asking for an indication of how much the work cost? I'm guessing omething like that must be upwards of £100.

Off topic continues with Sweeney McQueen derby from 1995 equipped with an ITSHIDE Golfer sole. But doesn't the writing inside look familiar? Could this shoe have been made for Sweeney by Tricker's?

I'm after a suede boot to add to my collection and I like the look of the Henry boots on the 4444 last.

How should I size this? In Stow a UK 7 is a very good fit for me even though I take a 7.5 in Church, C&J and Barker shoes.

Would a size 7 in the 4444 last feel too big?

Quote: If the Stow 7 is a good fit then the Henry 7 will feel too loose. Go for a Henry 6.5. I can say this with some conviction having sized down half a size from the Stow for the Henry and found both to be a good fit.

6.5 sounds tiny!

All my shoes used to be a size 8 and I still take an 8 in trainers. It felt "strange" going for 7 in Stow, as I haven't bough a size 7 in anything since I was 14 years old.

But 6.5??? I swear my feet are shrinking!

Quote: I emailed Tricker's the very same question as you posted here, only with my size in mind.

The replay was: "[The Henry]

will be bigger over the arch by about 1/4 size, but will always be too loose for you, David"

Any one here picked up a pair of the walnut cordovan Stow from retricker last week? Stainless or brass eyelets - just curious if it's a case of lottery or retricker reusing a photo from some previous batch.

Sigh. Well, I received the *beautiful* shoes, but they're a bit too tight. Actually, the right shoe is far too tight in the width. These aren't as generous in the width as my Grensons are. So, I'll have to return them and get a half size larger - 10 1/2. Since I wear a US size 12 (usually a UK size 11), that may be just about right, as everyone is saying to go a half size down. Now let's see how easy or difficult it is to return to Pediwear - I'm sure I won't have the shoes for at least a month, since I have to send them from Los Angeles to the UK, and then they'll process and send back the correct size, if they're in stock.

Frustrating, but this is the process one has to go through if there's no local Tricker's shop.

Going down two full sizes from US brannock sounds ambitious on any last. Try 10 1/2 UK if on 4444, but the 4444 last is generally tricky and doesn't fit many people (like me) well at any size, just as a warning!

Those Mallorys look outstanding. Have been toying with the idea of picking up a pair even though I'm working at home most of the time and mainly wear socks!

Ha ha .... do it!

To be honest, the Mallory isn't built to the same standard as a Tricker's boot, but it isn't far off. And it has a half-veldtschoen sole, which is silly, but these are my go-to boots. They are easily the most comfortable pair that I have (and I have quite a few) and they have been punished ... but they just keep bouncing back.

The other thing that I did to them, as soon as they were delivered from Richard, was to strip the wax "patina" from them with a suede cleaner. I then re-proofed them, and keep them proofed every few months or so, depending on use. Now the patina is genuine.

You won't regret it.

Going down two full sizes from US sounds ambitious on any last. When people say "go down a full size" they mean from UK size. So if you are a 12 US Barrie last then go with 11 UK. Maybe 10 1/2 UK if on 4444, but the 4444 last is generally tricky and doesn't fit many people (like me) well at any size, just as a warning!

But the Barrie last isn't your US size. If you're a 12 Barrie, you;re likely a 12.5 US.
