Neapolitan Tailors

Gentlemen,

Just curious about the tags of certain Neapolitan tailors. We all know about Rubinacci’s LH (London House) label with a crown. I am exactly seeing the same label with a crown and different letters under it. I believe the crown comes from the coat of arms of Naples.

Please check the different labels (tags) below found inside these hand-made jackets. Sartoria Formosa, to a certain extent uses the same style minus the crown.

So, why this “standardization” of tags please? And who are these other tailors please?

Rubinacci was given the privilege of using the crown on their insignia by the House of Savoy (the house that ruled Italy after unification). If the other Neapolitans use a crown, it could be that they have a royal warrant from a noble family, such as the House of Bourbon Two Sicilies, or it could be that they simply like the design.

Not sure about why multiple makers use a similar tag besides mimesis and perhaps the suggestions of a single or few suppliers of tags.

Thank you very much for correcting me about the usage of crown on Rubinacci’s tag. For some reason, I always thought it was linked to Naples’ coat of arms. Interesting argument about limited suppliers of tags!
