Does anyone know of a good "artisanal craft-y" store in London? Someplace that would sell handmade ornaments, for example, during Xmas. Basically a store that caters to old ladies that knit and are into stuff like that, bonus if the product is particularly "British" whatever that might mean.

There was one by Borough a the X-mas before last... I'll have to ask the girlfriend exactly where.

Covent Garden has one, but I think its mainly food. Carnaby St and Camden Mkt have them, but I dont know that its little old lady knitting...

You might find that more readily outside of central London.

When and where are you going to be?

Forgot...

Fortnam and Mason is great for X-mas stuff. Not exactly handmade, but great stuff in to take back to relatives.

Check out the arts and crafts market at Spitalfields Market, that'll be your ground zero. Every Sunday (Liverpool Street tube, follow the crowd). Adjoining it is the equally excellent (and cheaper Brick Lane Upmarket), very very hip.

ok cool, thanks for the suggestions.

my wife's mother wants some kind of ornament when we're back between Xmas and NYE at years' end. I tried to find something like that for her last year but came home emptyhanded on that front, so I want to get make sure I have a gameplan for this year.

VKK, thanks for the heads up, we'll def checkout Fortnam and Mason

Zuper....I think we're gonna be in Brick Lane to check out a 'mod' store so we'll do the upmarket and Spitalfield
