imo they're close in quality, construction, fit, etc. but i refuse to wear anything with a logo, and PRL logos a bunch.

As far as fits go, both fit me perfectly. I don't mind the horseman much -- everything in moderation i suppose. Actually, PRL is probably the only button-down(up) I can wear that has an logo at the chest. That and maybe some Hickey Style (which kind of resembles what Express does)

I prefer the oxford fabric and collar on the polo shirts over JCrew anyday, and I find the fit better on the custom fit as well, but I am with Robert in that I hate logo's, and that keeps me from purchasing the Polo's.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the price isn't the best. I think I might just go without a peacoat altogether since I have other items that are more important and it's rarely cold enough here to wear one, but I'll definitely check around.

I think I might go for a cord sportcoat but at 5'7" 180 I wonder how it'd fit me. If the small isn't too short on you it might be too long on me. Guess I'll have to try it on in the store.

In perfect condition w/ a few subtle details. The lapel is nice and narrow, and the fit is slim without feeling snug. It's not too bulky, partly due just to half-lining in the back. Shoulders have pads but you can hardly tell--like soft pads. It hangs about 1/2-1 inch longer than I'd prefer, but is otherwise perfect.

The coat is some no-name men's store label. But the more stuff I find from the 60s and earlier, the more it seems to me that even the less-known labels produced higher-quality stuff than you generally find around these days.

yes! i agree. I love their corduroy jacket; it's the (much) cheaper alternative to the beautiful EG one--but, if you're lucky, you can find a great "vintage" option. There used to be so many great vintage places around (ahem--in the '80s)... still wearing some of that stuff!

I have a cord sportcoat from two years ago in a small. I'm 5'9" 145 and it is too big for me in the shoulders/chest, but the length is fine. But yeah, you should certainly try it on in the store.

I'm getting a pair of Red Wing rugged classic boots. I'm a true size 10.5 some shoes i wear a 10 and sneakers sometimes 11.

Do i get them in 9.5 or 10?

I just tried the Red Wing Classic boots at J.Crew ( http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/Mens...8346/88346.jsp ) and I found the best fit to be .5 down from my usual/true size.

Just wondering if you picked these up yet and, if so, what your experience has been like? I really like how they look but, out of the box, they are quite stiff.

Anyway, the first pic below looks like straight brown but it's in the shadows. However, when I flex the leather uppers and put them in direct sunlight I can see the bergundy tint. I think it's because the boots are brand new and the thick coat of oil applied in manufacturing darkened them. I'm not so worried about the color anymore, I think after wearing them in they will look similiar to the photo in my last post - which are probably the '08 version that had been sitting around for a year.

Have you started wearing these yet? Are they comfortable?

They are supposed to be stiff.

There are some free shipping coupons out there. Just Google "J.Crew code".
