A lot of data will just sync to the devices over iCloud.

With the new iOS, no need to sync anything with a cable anymore, but you can sync the tablet to your laptop just like your iPhone. Or you can just use the iCloud and be cable free.

Seriously thinking about this one. I sold my iPad firs gen because it was too bulky. Never picked up a new one. So this may be my thing.

Are you storing your client's data in the iCloud?

Yeh they could discontinue it, for whatever reasons. Just like they did with MobileMe, and .Mac plus iTools before that. Then you got to find somewhere else to store your stuff.

Also things like storing music in the iCloud are only available in a few countries. Where I am iCloud is apps and books only, that's it.

The issue of concern for Harvey thet he brings up is not solely one of iCloud. Any cloud based service has similar wording in their TOS and theoretical ability to be invasive with your data. That goes for Dropbox, Google Drive, Skydrive, etc. These user agreements have become the industry norm.

Taking it a step further, do you think your email is safe? Check out GMails TOS next time you get a chance or Yahoo's. If you want to use online services the you must accept this is out there. I don't like it, but its not going to change anytime soon.

If anything, the real danger is your ISP. How much of your data being sent down their pipes is encrypted? Likely a lot less then anyone would be comfortable thinking about.

I have not been thrilled with Apple's cloud services. It seems wonky, I've heard some horror stories and have personally had a royal pain with their mobile me, etc.

For me, Google for calendar and Contacts sync...and Dropbox for files. Evernote for note taking. Cross platform, works really well.

that being said I'll probably get an ipad mini and keyboard for note jotting, evernote, etc. just gotta get the accessories.

yep. personally, I'd hold out for v2 with retina though.

Every review I have read so far been great. The weight of this device, while still maintaining reasonably large screen real estate, is a big deal.

Still, I couldn't go non-retina at this point. I love high res.

Same for the Retina Pro over the Air for you? I was leaning towards the Retina Pro but now I'm not sure. Another thread soon?

I feel like Laptops are different. Don't get me wrong, I would love the 13 inch Retina Pro. It's just not the same level of deal breaker for me.

For one thing, they're closing in on the weight difference between the Retina Pro and the Air -- 3.57lbs for the 13" Retina Pro vs. 2.96lbs for the 13" MBA. I'd choose the Retina Pro over the Air.

+1. The weight was really the only major selling point of the Air. Now that that has been almost negated its a no brainer. If you have the extra cash that is.

This is why the Air will still sell well. :)
