Hi,

Do you all have any experiences with Cuervo y Sobrinos watches? A few years back, I saw an amazing-looking torpedo watch at a local overpriced retailer. I've been thinking about taking the plunge, but I'm not sure what kind of build I should expect. They're not particularly cheap, and I'd hope to get a product of pretty high quality--but information on them is pretty sparse online.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I've heard that once before, but I'm not sure I understand why. Is that in relation to quality sub-$2000 watches, or is it in relation to comparably-priced watches?

Apologies for the dumb question.

I understood that they are using fairly common ETA movements. If this is true, their prices are ridiculous compared with the usual suspects among the swiss producers.

I like their solid gold models, though.

It's not necessary that they use ETA movts. That's what Breitling, Omega, and most of the Swatch Group brands use.
It's just that they are like Bell and Ross, you are paying a whole lot to get into their brand which is that and nothing else, a very good exercise in branding and selling a product for a whole lot more than what it is really worth. Having said that they are not bad watches, just not worth the price they command.

What an annoying turd. The independent makers he pimps are either paying him money or he just enjoys throwing together a smattering of ACHI names to help promote his authority/blog. C&S makes a nicely designed timepiece, at least when I handled them in the early 2000s. Their relative worth, however, is a different question altogether. The ebauches used in their time pieces require minimal modification and are often disproportionate to their respective cases (e.g. an ETA 2892 does not require a 46mm tonneau).

FWIW, I still have a few leftover alligator stamped C&S straps I acquired from a liquidation sale. As nice as anything I've handled from the mass market brands like Omega, TAG, etc.
