I am in the same boat of slowly building up my shoe collection - the way I get inspiration is by looking through the 'shoe Appreciation' thread and WAYWRN thread and saving pictures of stuff I like. I then wait till I have enough money to spend on a new pair and go back through all the pictures whittling them down untill I decide on the pair I want to get. Not exactly a straight forward way of doing things but at least it stops me buyiimpulse buying.

The easy answer? Slowly. My personal suggestion would be to acquire something you really want, even if it takes a bit longer to save up for it. Then again, I also have an aversion to worn shoes. I have a rotation of 12 now that I have accumulated over the last year and a half, and I am glad to say that I have not regretted any of my purchases. I would start by buying a couple pairs of Allen Edmonds, then work your way to C&J + Alden, then on to whatever else you want. Quantity is not everything! *In addition, I like Iron Rock's suggestion. I kind of did the same thing.

You have gotten some good advice that I agree with, but my two cents: 1)Take your time, 2)try things on if you can, and 3)get a variety of styles.

1) There is no rush and it sounds like you have the basics covered. 2) By trying on shoes you will get a sense over time of what lasts and makers fit your feet the best. This is especially important if you have a very wide or narrow foot or a high arch or whatever. Once you know this, online deals become much easier to pull the trigger on. 3) Be careful of stocking up on something you really like at the moment (like longwings with a lug sole, or whatever) as you may find in a couple of years that they don't look quite right. Also, once you have the basics, you can branch out to shoes that will be worn less often (suede for fall, spectator shoes or whatever strikes your fancy.)

The look is fine but I think it's hard to pull off. This is evidenced by the fact that none of the pictures look quite right.

The first is a suit, which I guess is fine, but as others have pointed out, it's not a look for everyone. The second has a chambray with jeans, which is a bit too much denim for me. The third shirt is pretty light, but it needs to be because it is paired with navy pants. Darker would be to close in color to the pants. Khaki pants sound good in theory, but would be too close in color to the jacket. See where I am going? Maybe charcoal pants would work, but again, maybe too dark for a chambray shirt. Finally, given the shirt, this is a casual look and all the components need to be slim and fitted to pull it off. The jacket should be fairly unstructured. The third picture probably demonstrates this the best.

I prefer the look of tucked-in collars, but they never stay there. So I just end up with untucked collars 5 minutes after putting the sweater on. And that's fine.

It really depends on the shirt and the sweater. Sometimes they stay tucked, sometimes they don't, but please tuck you shirt into your pants unlike the guy on the right.
