A few months ago, I was in Umeda (north part of Osaka, near the main train station) when I ended up at the men's shoe department at the Daimaru department store. I decided to try and find a replacement for my chukka boots that cause painful heel slippage, and by some miracle, there was a pair that actually fit in size 9. (For whatever reason, Japanese stores will usually stock up to size 9 regardless of the system, so if you're a borderline US 10/10.5 like me, it can give you a chance to try something on before you buy. But I digress.)
The shoes were made by Cheaney, and were tagged with the model designation "R 241 ALT". And actually, the shoes more than fit; they were perfect. Unfortunately, they were also nearly ¥50,000 (a little over $600 US right now), and I didn't have the money at the time. After I joined SF, I thought maybe I could find it at Pediwear or Herrings for a good bit cheaper, but they don't seem to stock the model; in fact, the only reference to it I've found at all is the website for the store. I went back a few days ago thinking I could get more information (or at least take a look at the markings on the box for last info), but due to renovations outlined here, the brand is currently "on hiatus" and they don't have any in stock.
So, has anybody heard of this model? Are they a custom make for Daimaru, or what? 'Cause I'd really like a pair.
