I really, really admire Delos...and even if I didn't, I adhere to St. Crispin's Code and would never criticize another maker (not even the big factory outfits). That said, it's hard to tell what those cracks are...if they are even cracks. Some makers will hammer the upper pretty firmly against the last right after lasting and/or after inseaming. In the normal course of events this is good policy and a well respected technique. But some leathers...or some areas of a hide...can be fragile enough that such impacts against a hard object underneath will cause cracking of a sort that looks very similar. On the other hand, you might be looking at "cracks" or separations in the finish only. The thing to remember is that leather is a natural product...it doesn't conform to any standard of quality or consistency. Not like naugahyde or vinyl. Even in one hide the quality can go from best of the best to P-poor in a very short space. And one of the reasons that tanner/finishers will put a finish coat on a piece of leather is to camouflage such minor flaws. The shoemaker can get caught, no fault of his own. I'm not saying that's what happened. I don't know for sure what's going on there but those are some of the possibilities.
