Picked up the Kenilworth blucher in dark brown this week. Took advantage of the "Rediscover America" sale which was 15% off factory 2nd price. I also bought a small AE branded travel shoe care kitand applied a couple coats of the AE wax while in the hotel this week. Those initial coats looked marginally better than right out of the box but not great.

However, when I got home I took out all my 'tools' and put ~3 more coats of regular ole brown Kiwi. When I have my big horsehair brushes and good polishing/buffing cloths, they turn out pretty damn well. I like the burnishing on the toe. It seems to work well with this model.

These are on the #5 last (same as park ave). I've never had much luck with the park ave as the #5 last is long and narrow and my feet are slightly wide. However, these fit like a champ in my normal size of 11D. I never would have guessed that the blucher lacing pattern would make that much difference but they fit great.

As always, Edward Wickham, Mgr of the Freeport, ME AE outlet was very helpful. If you get up that way, he's a very knowledgeable shoe guy.

I always suspect a blucher on the #5 would be good looking. I wish they'd offer the longwings on that last. I'd purchase them instead of the Barrie lasted Alden.

I ended up getting the Player's Shoe in chocolate and the Marvern in black pebble grain.

Both look significantly better in person compared to their picture on the website. The Mavern was far less clunkier than depicted online.

My goal was to get a casual shoe (Player's shoe) and something to wear for bad weather in DC (Mavern).

My first impressions after wearing both pairs once:

-The Players Shoe looks amazing and is significantly more comfortable than my other AE shoes (Strand and Park Ave). Chocolate suede is easy to pair with almost my entire wardrobe.

-The Mavern is extremely comfortable. It works with both casual clothing and suits (for bad weather of course). Good timing with all the rain today.

Interesting, I found the double sole of the players shoe to be a little stiff.

I purchased some used shell cordovan penny loafers on ebay. They in good condition; however, since they were used, I decided to recraft them.

I received my recrafted shoes in the mail yesterday and am slightly disappointed. The loafers had been absolutely caked in shoe cream; the leather wasn't even visible. I spent hours last night with a slightly damp cloth rubbing the majority of it off.

More importantly though, right before the heel on the outside of the shoes, the welt has been broken. I was under the impression that welts were replaced during recrafting, and I don't even think my welts were broken before re-crafting.

I am young and new to the nice shoe world, so am I justified in being unhappy and complaining here? Images are below:

Unacceptable sir, ask for them to do it again, and inform them of your thoughts on the mass amounts of cream applied. I have had some quality issues with AE lately, but they always come through with great service.
