those almond toe ostrich Western boots are fantastic. I've wanted to get fitted for some French toe rough out boots from Heritage in Austin for some time, but every time I'm back home in San Antonio there's just no time to get up there.

Medium brown seems good for bourbon; I went black and neutral. Black for the PA's and neutral for.....pretty much everything else. :hide:

If AE sells the color I get their premium polish then use neutral wax for the toe/heel. If not I get saphir colored cream that best matches. I don't use the colored wax generally. For bourbon unless the brown has come off or it is a bad scratch I use very light application of black cream particularly in the heavier burnished areas and use neutral wax on heel/toe though you could use black wax on heel/toe if you want more burnishing.

Light brown for all the walnuts and black. Also, the 4th is creepin' up on us:

You don't have to wait until July 4 to wear these. I plan to wear mine on Memorial Day.

Thanks to whoever posted the ebay coupon. Saved me $15 on a pair of C&J for Barneys at an already awesome price.

Did it indeed expire last night or is it still active? Asking for a friend.

Better shot of my bal boots. Super comfy for a first wear, especially considering it was a 12 hour day, mostly on my feet. RW inserts certainly helped.

And as a slight, but related, bump... Any suggestions on what sock subscription club to join, should I want to wear with these boots... And other AEs?

Soxy?

The answer to your question about wearing bit loafers with suits might depend on where you will be doing this.

It's very common in Los Angeles (both with and without socks) but it might not be where you will be doing it.

Was at a funeral earlier today (wearing black A-E for Brooks Brothers Strands and black socks). There were a number of people at the funeral wearing suits with bit loafers (both with and without socks).

Since someone is bound to ask, I was one of the two people at the funeral wearing a black tie.

For fans of A-E In The Wild pictures, here's a picture (with my car) before I left to go to the funeral.

I live in Washington DC/the Mid Atlantic region where most men really don't care about their shoes like elsewhere.

Tbh in regards to ether loafer(the Vernon or BB one) I go with I prob would only wear it through mid-march to early Oct. As with most shoes I tend to go with laceups during the winter.

The big diffrence comes with suits for me, I mean it seems with the AE Vernon(bit) I can wear it with most things ether dress or casual (although suits are in doubt) I mean I could wear it with a summer suit or a light colored one-although I doubt I could wear it with something darker or something made out of a heavier cloth. I certainly wouldn't wear ether to something such as a funeral.

Likewise the BB model seems like a strictly dress loafer that would be more difficult to wear dressed down.

So thats my dilemma overall

@Kevin24, for some historical perspective, here's a scan of a page from John T. Molloy's 1975 book, "Dress For Success" which unlike other books, is not the personal opinions of someone in the Men's Style business or a joke book, like "The Official Preppy Handbook".

It is a book of scientific research done to determine what you should wear to sell your product to people based on their social class, race, sex, religion, and location.

John T. Molloy now has on online advice website:

Anyone know the difference between the 'Westbrook' and the newer 'Maritime'? Google leads me to believe they havent made Westbrooks in a while.. and I presume reintroduced the Maritime recently due to the popularity of wearing boat shoes for casual wear...

Anyway.. picked up a pair for 20 bucks (accepted 10.05 offer w/ 9.95 shipping) and want to know exactly what I have coming, as Im striking out in finding a true shoe description.. I do a lot of fishing on the great lakes and my dept store boat shoes that cost about 40 bucks last about one summer... so as long as they make it a year, im already way ahead.. but are these goodyear welt and recraftable? Thanks in advance!
