What do you know about footwear? I imagine most people in the world - and most denizens of this forum - know little beyond the cost of their favorite brands, and while most of us probably own nicer shoes than the average schmo on the street (except me, for I have no feet), we still don't know much about how shoes are made.

But StyleForum can teach us!

Austro Hungarian Shoemaking

Austro-Hungarian shoes (perhaps the only time the phrase "Austro Hungarian is used outside of history books these days) have big, block shape, thick welts and chunky construction. In otherwords, they're awesome. Unfortunately it can be hard to find authentic Austro-Hungarian shoes in the West - sure some brands use some techniques, but there are entire worlds of bespoke shoemakers that sell affordable, impeccable footwear. Read and learn.

Exotics

Well-made, goodlooking exotic leather shoes (non-calf) are difficult to find and ludicrously expensive. For every pair of beautiful, John Lobb crocodile balmoral boots there are fifty pairs of square-toed Mezlan monstrosities. Let this thread save you, and inspire you to make far more money.
