Rush Limbaugh - "Before his Twinkie diet, he tried to eat a healthy diet that included whole grains, dietary fiber, berries and bananas, vegetables --" basically he ate cardboard "-- and occasional treats like pizza. 'There seems to be a disconnect between eating healthy and being healthy,' Haub said. 'It may not be the same. I was eating healthier, but I wasn't healthy. I was eating too much.' He maintained the same level of moderate physical activity as before going on the diet." He didn't exercise any more than usual. "To avoid setting a bad example for his kids, Haub ate vegetables in front of his family." But that was just to fake 'em out. So there you have it."
CNN: Two-thirds of his total intake came from junk food. He also took a multivitamin pill and drank a protein shake daily. And he ate vegetables, typically a can of green beans or three to four celery stalks.

That's my understanding. Also cannibal societies tend to eat the brains, which really ups the prion exposure.

It's not actually CJD, but a disease similar to it called Kuru. It's not like there are a ton of tribes that practice cannibalism and I'm not even sure if it's been more then one thats been singled out for this that have developed Kuru. Besides, the prions are really only a problem if your eating the brain.

So fruit is alive after you pick it? Then why does it rot after being picked?

fruit juice might not be healthy, but fruit is. Fiber slows down absorption of fructose. Juices don't have enough fiber. Fruits do.

He makes a logical and well thought out case:
One of the reasons I know what I know is that I know liberals, and I know liberals lie, and if Michelle Obama's gonna be out there ripping into "food desserts" and saying, "This is why people are fat," I know it's not true.

Yes.
Fruits also will have higher levels satiation than drinking high amounts of fruit juice, so generally the amount of consumed calories will be less as the juice is much easier to drink in larger quantities and takes less internal energy to break-down for the large glasses we normally use. However, this is America not to mention the most popular fruit juices consist of garbage quality orange juice, apple juice, and re-sweetened (added during processing) cranberry juice cocktails.

This thread is sorely lopsided by forgetting the equally important counter side, which are vegetables.

+1. I love fruit, especially berries, but they cost a lot. I had a craving for berries and spent nearly $20.00 on small containers of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, dried cranberries, and a couple of pears. I was shocked when I saw the total at checkout.

Harvey, I think he meant that by eating a lot of fruit, you're also consuming a lot of water, killing two birds with one stone.

That's right. Fast food and soda are way cheaper per calorie.

I love dried fruit and nut mixes. They taste great and have a lot of nutrient value. The only things is that small bags of trail mix with dried fruit are really expensive, like $5. Why can't healthier foods be priced more like fast food, soda, or candy?
