We have thought about this approach extensively and have concluded that keeping the sold out sizes and that letting customers request a restock notification was the better approach. For those of you who've used that function, you may have been able to score a size that was sold out later. About 1/3 of all these requests receive a restock notification - that's a lot. And we're doinng this because we offer such an easy return policy that customers often buy more than one size or often exchange sizes - which means that a lot of products are often only temporarily out of stock.

Fair enough.
