I'm a 9d in the aberdeen and 8.5 in the barrie last (shell only). For some reason, I wear 9d in the barrie calf shoes. Loafers are always tricky, though.I'm hoping you gents can provide some guidance on sizing. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first Aberdeen-lasted Aldens (specifically, king tassels). I went to the Brooks Brothers in my town and tried on an 8.5d and a 9d. I assumed they were on the Aberdeen, although the sales reps had no clue (in fact, when I asked about confirming that these shoes were made by Alden by virtue of how skinny the box they came in was, the rep told me they were made by "cordovan"; smh...).
I went first with the 9D, which should have been tts. It's comfy enough, but with a moderate amount of heel slippage while wearing a no-show sock. Toe box was plenty comfy, maybe a bit roomy.
I tried the 8.5D. The toe box is snug, but not oppressive and not necessarily likely to be painful on a pinky toe. Very little heel slippage, which I would imagine will settle down once the cork gives way.
My understanding of Aberdeen sizing is that one almost always goes true to size. I'm curious about whether there are Alden guys out there who ended up going Barrie size for Aberdeen? Particularly for those of you who have widish feet...
Does it make sense for me to try the 8.5E from Alden to make sure there is enough room in the toe box such that my little piggies arent cramped after an 8 hour day? BB reps tell me they don't do E sizes
Thanks for any help you can provide!
I'm pretty sure that BB does do E sizes. Sounds like 8.5E may be right for you.
