Trying to decide between these two. Thoughts???

Um, thats easy. Both.

But if you HAD to choose only one, here's two arguments, one for each:
1. Rarer shell (if that's ravello) may be harder and harder to find as it seems Alden is overwhelmed with orders and pre-orders for these colors. Its fewer and farther between so I'd go with that.
2. #8 is much more versatile, seasonally and with coordinating with other colors than the lighter color. So I'd go #8.

Hence, both.

I would go with the #8. Shell is just so worth it. Look a NYR's pics a little while back for durability. Maybe you could darken that edgetrim up though... Don't know why people seem to like light with these dark leathers...:uhoh:

Never done it, but my local guy tells me he can do MTO with Alden for cost of shoe + $150 special makeup fee (Alden's fee not his). PM me if you want details.

I guess the days of buying J crew Aldens at 25-30% off are gone... Maybe I should have kept those plain toe boots.

When I ordered the Day Trippers from Leffot their suggestion was "In general the Grant last sizing is the same as the Barrie and TruBalance."
Of course they have yet to arrive so I may be stuffed.

I actually don't agree with what Leffot said about Grant being the same as Barrie/Trubalance. In my experience, I size up .5 in Grant from Barrie/Trubalance. The lengths may be similar but with the shape of the grant being more angular, some of that length by the toe isn't "useable space." This is with my foot shape, could be different for others...
