I did, because at the previous gig, I was brought on to do task A and ended up doing A through F. At this company, I was brought on to do A through F, and so felt good about asking for that amount of comp. Now I'm finding I'm doing A through M.

In the four year period of Y2K to 04, about 550%. Sadly, I'm locked in for only 6% for the next five years (on my base. Bonuses are performance dependent).

I'm still in my first real career type job since and my raises have all been pretty meager - about 2% as yearly step raises. Unfortunately, we've also had 2.5% pay cuts each of the previous two years so after being here four years and finishing grad school within that time, I earn about the same as when I started.

It looks like some promotions might finally be available within the next 6 months or so, and if things go right, I could be looking at about a 38% raise which is huge in my line of work.

Is your job planning what neighbourhoods to plow under?
