If (that's a big "if") the bespoke shoes go right (even then, the first pair won't fit "perfectly").
If they go wrong, they can be an expensive shipwreck!

First of all, not all custom shoes are great. A lot of them don’t fit properly. Others don’t look elegant and some are not well made. Thus it would be more honest to state that custom shoes are fantastic if they are built around a fit that lasts and if the craftmen know what they are doing. If this is not the case custom shoes are a nightmare and worse than the average factory product.

P.S. I believe there is an error in the quote. "a fit that lasts" should be "a last that fits".

Bengal-stripe

you are right, indeed it takes time for the bespoke to get it right.

what do they know, seriously?

80% of the shoes displayed on their site are rather gaudy. that's a fact.

also most of the bashers haven't come close to any workshop in the world, let alone budapest or vienna.

or how would you explain e.g. the "thousands" size and colour comparing threads...

You are preaching to the choir Fritzl. Anyways while EG shoes indeed are beautiful, they are overpriced in my opinion. If somebody is really hell bent on getting english shoes I think Alfred Sargent is better value.
