I notice that your tie's stripes are in European direction. I wonder whether this is seen as a faux pas or don't you (Americans) have a strong opinion on that matter (unlike the British)?

Here's a discussion on the military background of the different styles (including a good joke at the end of the discussion).

And the Source of Truth says:

Typically, American striped ties have the stripes running downward from the wearer's right (the opposite of the European style). However, when Americans wear striped ties as a sign of membership, the European stripe style may be used.

Thanks Mike - And your Sartoria suit today is IMO one of your best posts to date. Fit, combo, pic quality - all win. Deets on the tie? I love it.

Its unorthodox, but thats why I like it.

Huntington is really all you need, theres nothing else worthwhile unless you do East Hampton.

Spoo - I don't know if I'm going out tomorrow, so if not, consider this my entry to this week's outerwear contest, if an early entry is within the rules!

Thanks C - and noted on the contest entry.

Are you traditionally a SW&D poster? If so, you probably could have won the SWD does MC challenge with this. Very nice, and the BV case is super.

Another arguement for the cardigan--a must have in every wardrobe. Classy unbuttoning of the top and bottom. The color of the sweater is enhanced by the wall in the background.
