Can anyone recommend a good, reliable cobbler in the DC metro area within easy access to downtown and/or the NoVA orange line metro? I have heard good things regarding George's Shoe Repair on U Street, but I have no first hand experience to verify.

Sky Valet in the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue in upper Georgetown is excellent, but a bit off from the metro.

Thanks all, I ended up going to Sky Valet since C&C did not carry the Topy brand. Service was certainly quick and efficient but not as friendly as I would have liked.

George's is a bit overpriced, IMO. They put a topy on a cheap monk I use as a rain shoe, I think it was about $40.00. I had him resole a leather soled Ferragamo Studio, and it looks quite cheap. It looked cheap to begin with, glued sole and all, but now I hate them. I think that was nearly $70.00.

I think I'll just take my shoes back to my guy in NY in the future. I know most SFers don't get to the outer boros much, but there's an old Korean guy on Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens who chain smokes in his shop. He's never let me down.

Sky Valet is very good, but they have a stated preference for their shoe customers. One of the owners told me that they have more cobbler business than they have time for, so they prioritize based on who buys shoes from them; he said they occasionally turn away requests to repair shoes simply because they don't have the time.

Don't know the store's name or number but I go to guy off the Clarendon metro, a couple of doors down from the Hard times cafe, next to a local coffee shop. I've used him for sole replacments and shines and can recommend him for that. Good guy too, but I fear that Clarendon rent prices will drive him out of that location.

Excellent, I will investigate the Clarendon location for future needs--quite close to my residence. I'll see if I can find out where he's moving to if he is forced out.

I highly recommend George's Shoe Repair in Fairfax at the corner of Lee Highway and Cedar Lane (8709 Lee Hwy). It's 1.6 miles from the Dunn Loring orange line Metro station. Whatever I take to George is done right. And if he doesn't think a repair is worthwhile, he'll tell you. I trust him with my best shoes. It's not related to George's Shoe Repair on U Street.

I think that cobbler shop relocated to a condo nearby.

I used him once to do a minor repair once and he did a good job at a very reasonable price. I think he is a Russian, by the way.

Anybody have any recommendations for a cobbler in the Capitol Hill neighborhood? Not looking for an out-and-out repair, just somebody who I can trust will do a decent job adding a rubber sole to a pair of beaters for a fair price.

I'd like to know, too. Did the Armenian cobbler next to the Clarendon metro re-locate and is he still in business?
