Dear all,
Why have the traditional brands of raincoats (Aquascutum, Burberry and others) changed the style of their standard SB/DB raincoats from the soft, drapey cotton (gabardine?) with generous fits, creamy buttons, in a beautiful cold grey/green beiges (in the 70s/80s) to a stiff/rigid cloth, with short fit, dark brown/black buttons, in nasty yellowey/mustardy tones?
I always thought the late Duke of Edinburgh wore a raincoat particularly well, as did Gekko in Wall St (i think both wore Burberry) and both illustrate the kind of shade and drape i'm looking for. I've attached a few examples of the traditional look i want and of the modern look i can't stand.
There must surely be a brand that makes them like they used to, but i can't find...could members recommend? The closest shade i got to was by Mackintosh, but the fit wasn't good and the cloth very plasticky.
eBay is my usual go-to in such situations but I've been trying literally for years...but they all seem to be absolutely enormous - i'm all for a loose fit here, but did they not make any in a UK36/38/40? I can't find any!
i'd be very grateful for any recommendations for a traditional raincoat, SB or DB. many thanks indeed.
