Why can't brooksbrothers.com get suits off backorder?

Joseph A. Bank Clothiers would never have this problem even at their eight-for-price-of-one suit sales.

What would you know about Jos. A Banks, Mr. One-for-the-price-of-eight?

I too am waiting on an 1818 Fitz in charcoal, size 38R. We'll see if it ever arrives. I've had the same problem in the past with their 3-for-$199 shirt specials. I order once, and the shirts trickle in over the next 3 months.

the 3 for $199 has been going on for like everyday

The stores should be stocked with all the sizes.

Looks to me like they are making to order, or moving toward just-in-time inventory. So that's that point: they are selling stuff that is not in stock to avoid stocking stuff that does not sell. There's not going to be much on clearance in 2010. If you want to buy on super discount, you're going to wait for your product. Or shop somewhere else. If you need it this week, you'll pay something more like full retail. I think the days of BB having everything in the catalog, in stock and ready to deliver, are over. For now at least. I'm just guessing. If this is the strategy, it's better than lowering standards and having sales 340 days a year.

I too ordered a solid color Fitz suit that is on backorder

They pushed just yesterday back to Sep 27

I am frustrated to say the least that they cannot reliably predict a ship date

They will lose customers, no question, unless they fix this

Business is business, and if there's one thing that will crush your dreams for success, it's uncertainty

Even before this economy I had long waits and often out of stocks after a wait on backordered goods - esp. shoes. This is nothing new for BB.

And you had est ship dates that kept moving back almost daily?

So true. This behavior isn't new from BB.

Well played. Vox likes to wax poetic about the BB of yesteryears. However, I'm not sure he'd actually shop there even if it were the same as back in the day. He is a man of many contradictions.

+1. I can appreciate their move towards J.I.T. production if that is indeed what they are trying to do. However, there's no excuse for repeatedly pushing back delivery dates.

stuff like this embarasses me to be honest. Basic staples like solid navy's charcoals, in a very common size should never be out of stock throughout the ENTIRE ocmpany. I can understand perhaps one store selling out, but then being able to transfer in another suit within a week. But to continously take backorders is wtf? I mean furo would be paying XXX$ for his suit that was supposed to be backordered and delivered the 21st, they push back the date an entire week, but fails to compensate for that. ugh.

on a diff note, we got stock of some fall suits, and bf shipped yesterday, and is supposed to arrive this friday, which is nice.

My suit backorder showed an est ship date of 9/26, but checking BB.com just now it says the order shipped today. So we'll see what shows up next week.

Interesting

And that was for a charcoal 38R?
