and in some cases(such as the man with glasses in charge of the Kiton and Oxxford "boutique" at Saks) know how to be downright condescending.

I think I met this guy.. Anyhow, a salesman at a Chicago chain (can't remember if it was Saks or Neimans) came down on me like a ton of bricks when I looked at a book they had laying on a table in the middle of the room. I can't remember exactly, but I think it had something to do with Brioni special orders.

Logan, whom I will certainly defer to especially since he is an established Ebay seller, has a good idea.  You could contact these people ahead of time by impersonal means(not face to face) by phoning or faxing.
I may be established, but I've been too busy with my management consulting business these days to even think about selling on eBay. The economy has definitely picked up...

A Harris, the man(if we're thinking of the same one) at Saks wears (I think) rimless glasses. He has a touch of a foreign accent(he has greying hair and may be a Spaniard) - could be the characteristics we need to see if we are thinking of the same person. He has a desk in the Oxxford/Kiton section from which he sometimes gets up and walks around to pretend that he's busy with something, though I really think it's so he can keep an eye on me. I browse the section on some occasions when I'm downtown Chicago. I often browse the swatches. He once asked me, after I indicated that I was just browsing in reply to his question "Are you looking for anything in particular?" "Are you a fashion student or something?" I said, "No."
