Subcultures can form around any interest or activity. Most people if not all belong to subcultures. Truckers, carnies, football fans, rodeo people, cabbies, body builders, fashion forum members are all members of subcultures as defined by sociologists. Most people belong to several subcultures.

Contracultures are the outlaw gangs etc thats values/goals oppose mainstream culture which may be more of what people think of when they see a Skin head or Goth girl but most of these people are just as harmless as police or firemen.
