Randomly Prime-surfed my way into watching the Liam Neeson movie Grey the other night. It was pretty good.

Never heard of this untilk it showed up on my Prime feed. Pretty good. The bad guys are pretty nutty. The ending is a little over the top.

I remember liking that.

Watched the Jumanji reboot over the weekend, very entertaining film. I was turned off by the marketing when it came out (the poster is a good example of what I mean), but based on the glowing reviews and IMDB score we decided to give it a shot, and it was a lot of fun.

Don't do what I did and watch the sequel to the reboot. The characters were annoying as **** and the movie overall was disappointing.

Finally caught this. Excellent film. Was a little impatient at the beginning with the nearly 30 minute build up to the bombing but it was well worth it.

35ml presentation....a quarter of the film has been lost over time. Excellent restoration and simply amazing at the National Film & Sound Archive cinema, full (Covid) house for the screening. Still remarkable.

@The Ernesto - What did you think?

Growing up in Australia, we never had much exposure to Mr Rogers, but he sounds like both a lovely and an interesting man, who was passionate about childrens' education and creativity.

My partner had never heard of him (Mr Rogers). Of course she then went on to read everything Tom Junod had written. ?

I thought the film was imperfect and some small sections were really pedestrian and annoying but this was countered by some really great scenes and I reckon knowing so little about the main man (Rogers) was a big advantage. Thought Hanks did v well.

What did you think?

^ I enjoyed it, even though I've never seen any of Mr Rogers' television programs. It seems like the sort of program that I would have liked as a child. I also thought that Tom Hanks did a really good job - but, of course, that's coming from a position of ignorance about what Mr Rogers was actually like!

I think that I probably first heard about Mr Rogers from the Tom Junod article, which I read some years ago via the Longform app (which is great, by the way).

I really enjoy Tom Junod's writing - his piece on his father's fashion tips is really entertaining.
