What do you do to shoes out of the box?

Hello, I'm buying a pair of Church's and I'd like to know what I should do before wearing them in order to minimize creasing of the uppers. At the moment, all I do is slap on a bit of conditioner, wait for it to soak in, then wear to break them in. Please tell us how all you shoe aficionados pamper your footwear. (apart from regular polishing and shoe tree use, which is pretty obvious, really)

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Polish, topy heels and toes, wear. Some of my shoes crease terribly, some don't. I have had a hard time getting boots to polish to my satisfaction after using Lexol, but eventually they got better.

Condition the leather with a good leather conditioner to minimize creasing & wrinkles when you first wear them. I do not like using topys, but a toe tap might be warranted if you wear the toes down very quickly.

I'm like you and like to get a coat of conditioner, neutral polish or wax on a new pair of shoes depending upon how porous the leather seems to be. I also have a thing about too many creases, I don't like them. I've tried a lot of things but the creasing seems to come down to the quality of the leather. They are expensive, but I have never found shoes that crease as little as Lobb.

Take shoes to Sky Valet for toe taps and polish. Purchase cedar shoe trees from Sky Valet when picking up shoes.

Always use conditioner before wearing. After conditioning, polishing is probably advised as well.

Thanks for all your replies. In your experience, what's the best way to store shoes? I was thinking of making a cabinet with ventilation fans (really slow ones) and place them in grooves made for that particular last.

Again, any opinions are appreciated.

1. Take shoes off
2. Insert cedar trees
3. Sit shoes atop shoebox until my wife nags me to put my shoes away
4. Put shoes in box
5. Put shoebox on closet shelf
