Okay, had a spare five minutes and actually bothered to take a picture of the case of Merry Edwards that arrived this week:

^^ I recognize everything there except for the Louis XIII -- is it actually Scotch?

Oh, and that Merry Edwards label looks suspiciously vegetal ...

Right now I am finishing off the mediocre Kelly's Revenge shiraz, but later it's going to be a variety of Balvenies with Cubanos in a friend's hot-tub, the current snow-storm be damned!

Buy more! Joy in life is rare and if you can merely buy it. I see there (mostly obscured) your bottle of my favorite 'weekly' scotch, the wonderful:

Tonight was a series of PBR's with a bit of Jim Beam thrown in the mix...seemed appropriate for the setting (Unknown Hinson show at the local rock dive).

I decided to crack a bottle of the Russian River blend last night. I have this damn cold so was not going to, but my nose cleared up enough I thought I could appreciate it, but didn't want to risk a single vineyard to my cold. That and my wife was dying to crack one. The RR blend is the most ready to drink now too; I plan to cellar the rest until at least 09, keeping until about 2012 or 13.

Anyways, the tasting notes, which are a combo of mine and my wife's in this case, given my cold. This does not have much of what I call "pinot funk". I believe your true oenophile calls it "earthy notes in the nose". Therefore, it did not need decanting the way most pinots do. Nice black cherry, raspberry, and strawberry jam notes. It is deep in ripe fruit. Dry and medium bodied. Supple tannins, elegant structure. Definite raspberry puree or strawberry jam flavors. It opens to a distinct smoky nose with white pepper/spicy tastes on the finish.

We had it with panko crusted chicken breasts, coconut milk rice, and steamed baby bok choi.

This isn't anything like Piobaire's rich ass and his millions worth of liquor

, but last night I had a bottle of Riesling, Chateau Ste. Michelle. It was pretty darned good, imo, for us barely-over-minimum-wage guys.

Last night=whole lot of bourbon, and then a whole lot of gin at the bar. And then some more bourbon.

There's some GREAT values in Riesling IMO. Good choice. Try an "L" by Dr. Loosen or some of the Schloss in the $10-20 area. Great wine is not always expensive
