As you know, conscientious fishermen practice catch and release. I was out fishing at Lake Deseret Thrift Store today, when I snagged a beautiful pair of burgundy Hanovers. Clean, not scuffed, little wear, $15. Size 13...yay! Size 13...AA. Boo. I knew my fat-ass wide feet were not going to tolerate this, but I attempted to try them on just in case. No way. Back in the lake they went.

I think catch and release was the right call on that pair. They're flaking in the vamp creases already and there's no way back from that.

Rarely snows in San Francisco, so we should be OK. Coincidentally I wore a pair with Dainite soles this morning in the rain to our local farmer's market, and felt sure-footed as always. Deflecting to a Ukrainian beer pic from last night. This tastes pretty good actually. View attachment 1781096
The brewery is in Poltava, which as everyone knows is on the way from Kyiv to Kharkiv. Ice cubes in beer? Well, the first time I went to Vietnam way back in 1993 the beer was served with cracked ice in it, and I decided I liked it that way.

That's a very interesting post. Especially as I'm from Kharkiv, everyone knows about now.

In the event your son ever decides to migrate North... or climate change brings snow to Cali.

I'm not much of a beer or alcohol drinker. However, in Hong Kong and amongst Asian Canadians, ice in beer is very common. I really enjoy mixing beer with ginger ale or 7 Up.

Also, are those boxes of Ramen and instant noodles in the background?

Probably; that supermarket is called Pacific Market and it's full of asian groceries. It's the kind of store where an end display will have three different brands of oyster sauce in the quart size stacked high. Almost as good as 99 Ranch.

Staying at least tangentially on the topic of shoes, I stopped in there on my way back from thrifting these AE Fifth Avenues (11 C)

and Fairfax wholecut brogues (12 D). I have this exact same pair in my size and like them a lot. London Tan was the right color match to bring them back.

@slimjohnil6 those look great. If you want to get the last bits of grit out of the rolls, I've found that brushing them with leather cleaner applied on a soft toothbrush dipped on hot water is very effective.

From a couple of years ago. These 93606s had a lot of rough tiger stripes on them but cleaned up well.

Happy Easter! Celebrating with 1968 or 1978 Golden Harvest. They’re on replacement heels so hard to tell. First time wearing them in a couple years.

I was looking for some very thin leather insoles to put in some of my vintage shoes, and recently ordered a pack of these pigskin insoles from Amazon. They are sold in sets of 4 pairs for about $16. I just tested a pair in my 93602s today, and first impressions were good.

I wanted something made from leather that would minimize the feel of the previous owner's footprint without changing the fit, and these checked all the boxes. I like how these are just thin pieces of leather with no added foam or anything like that.

They are trim-to-fit up to EU size 45. Without any trimming they fit well into my 11C Florsheims.

During this Easter weekend our little thread passed through 3,000,000 views, and the world is better for it. Carry on.

Great suggestion CWOyaji, - I’m going to keep working on cleaning up those creases. I’ll update with pics in a few days.
