I'm heading out to Vegas in mid-September for a bit of birthday fun and looking for recent restaurant experiences. We're staying downtown (at the GN), but are going out to a late show on the strip one night. Anyone have a restaurant recommendation for me?

We've eaten at Picasso's at the Bellagio and Hanks at GVR (both great). I was thinking of trying Alize at the Palms. Anyone been there? Seems to get great reviews.

There are so many choices now that if I'm coming in for a weekend I tend to get sensory overload trying to decide where to eat.

Margueritaville near the Pink Flamingo is popular for a casual sort of joint. Are you familiar at all with the Vegas layout? FWIW, in my experience, the downtown area is pretty ****** and run down. Is there any flexibility with your reservations? If at all possible, I'd recommend trying to get a casino on the strip like Treasure Island or the Hard Rock. The Red Rock is amazing too, but it's about 15-20 minutes away, so you won't get the same 'strip' atmosphere that I think is vital if this is your first trip out to Sin City.

Anyway, good luck, should be a fun trip no matter what

If you've never tried Nobu, LV may be a good place to do that. It's easier to get a table there than in NYC. Same goes for Atelier Robuchon.

Thanks for the hotel recommendations, but I've been going to the Nugget for over 15 years now and love it (especially the comped rooms). I stayed at the Bellagio last September and have stayed at most of the major strip hotels so I'm good on the hotel choice. Just looking for restaurant suggestions.

We have a Nobu here in Dallas and I've been there a couple of times (I like the way you think though). I've not tried the Atelier Robuchon. I'll look into it.

I looked into the main Joel Robuchon restaurant last time I was in town, but the $225/$360pp price tag took my breath away. But I guess the Atelier is a bit more...what?...can you call a $125 for dinner reasonable? At least it's in the ballpark of the some of the other places we're considering.

I've always had great food and service at Del Frisco's. Its not on the strip but it doesn't sound like thats an issue for you.

Nah. Not an issue. I'm willing to go anywhere for a great meal.

I should have mentioned that I'm trying to steer clear of steakhouses because on of the nights there we're eating at Vic & Anthony's. We are on the same wavelength though.

If you don't mind dropping the cash for it... Bouchon by Thomas Keller never dissapoints (even if it isn't Keller himself behind the stove). I wouldn't drop my hard earned cash on anything that wasn't fantastic. There are also some really good BBQ joints around vegas. I don't like the buffet at the Belagio... expensive and rather tasteless (fancy items being offered... but all overcooked and nasty).
