It seems that Polo makes its suits in the same exact material for both the US and European markets in two distinct cuts (Pleated & Full cut vs. Slimmer & Flat Front) and we know these suites come from Corneliani....

Is this unique to Polo or do other makers have this same manufacturing distinction?

Hi, have been lurking for a while.

Its not just Polo, try comparing a Kiton, Attolini or Borrelli Suit bought in Europe with one bought is the US. You will generally find the fit totally different, more waist suppression and much slimmer. Its not just suits, its also shirts and sweaters. I had to buy a nwe shirt in Chicago, so went for a Borrelli size 16/41 neck. Neck is okay, about the same, chest size of shirt bought in US is like a tent
(8 inches larger than normal).

The Gap recently did the same.

Didn't someone, somewhere around here say that Americans are hunkier, chunkier and generally inclined to being fatter than Yurpeens?

Yup. Makers are not stupid. They make a size that works for the market in which they are sold. If Americans were not fatter, then the clothes wouldn't be either.

There is also a small factor that Americans tend not to like form fitting clothes as much as Europeans do (unless they are rural german farmers), so even the same sized person in the US will choose a looser fitting garment than a european.

So it is both -- fit preference and actual size.

Being fat should not discourage americans from buying tight eurocut clothes. It is teh sexy!
The areas of the body that do not get enough blood to them due to the tight clothes will fall of after a couple of weeks. This will decrease the weight considerably.
