I posted the above in the official thrift thread just over 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately I didn't get any responses.

I was tempted to send a quick email to the guys at putthison.com asking for advice, I figured it would be just as beneficial to open this question up to a wider audience though.

As you'll now know, I'm based in the UK and I'm finding it really troublesome locating anyway to shop for second-hand clothes. I like to dress in formal way quite often so I'm ideally looking for shirts, ties, overcoats, shoes in good condition etc etc - you get the idea.

Jesse often talks about finding great bargains and unfortunately I've never come across anything. At this stage I'd take a place that could provide me with the occasional pocket square or tie.

I've looked into some options recently and it seems to be limited to charity shops in the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear area.
The next "hot lead" seems to be a vintage fair coming to my area in May this year. I've no idea what it will be like and for quite awhile I thought it was women only but luckily found some photos of the event that featured men ..... but not menswear. I'll be going in blind but it's worth a shot at this stage.
As mentioned, the obvious options would be charity shops. I've spent a bit of time looking around some in the local area and there seems to be very little of the style of quality I'm looking for. Nothing worth buying and if I'm lucky I'll see maybe 1 or 2 suits in the shop but often it's all low grade ugly clothes.

Is this simply something that I'll have to live with because it isn't a big part of the English lifestyle (seemingly outside of London). Or am I missing some obvious places to pick up some bargains?

The British do not normally go to second hand shops to buy decent clothes. As you have found they will send tat 'to help the poor people' but that is about the height of it.
