Got up at 5am to start up the smoker. Got the butt on there with some nice rolling blue from the applewood. Going to be a good day.

funny, i had to click through three pages to find "things that are making you happy", but "things that are making you mad" is practically stickied. Anyway, at our Festival of Books yesterday I did a conversation with Thomas Keller. It's excerpted on our blog and I think some of the things he had to say were really interesting. YMMV.

Trout sashimi, trout roe, lemon-horseradish cream/foam, finished with dried curled trout skin bits. Was amazing, and a beautiful plate too.

Jean-Georges

Unbelievable dish - but I'm a sucker for very strong flavors.

If you go, get the snapper entree.

Just bought 2lbs of pork shoulder and a bit of belly... making Lu Ro Fan for some taiwanese friends. Had this dish a while ago and really liked it.

This girl told me she would go find out the recipe for this pho tai i ate throughout college, replete with video and instructions, if I gave her $800. I've tried and failed and this pho is always on my mind, so $800 is a bargain. I'd ******* give them $10K if they really taught me the legit way and I could replicate it for further use.

I don't think you should deal with someone that would charge you money to find out the recipe for something.

a family member who works for a large dairy company sent a picture of this. Yes, they framed it:

i've got a collection of those. my all-time favorite came after we ran a cover story on white asparagus. from one Rita K. Ramp (ritakramp?):
I am a 62-year-old Grandmother and admittedly it has been a few years since I've had sex. Is that why your cover story of white asparagus looks like a lovely garden of slender penises?

Don't know for sure whether it's legit, but i certainly hope so.

I got another one scrawled in son-of-sam crayon "Will you cook me a duck?"
