I don't know if anyone has already discussed this, but I'm certainly gonna say my piece:
Derek Guy, known here as dieworkwear, is kind of an annoying nerd.
Maybe it's the Twitter fame from "epically roasting" republicans outfits and becoming known as "the menswear guy" going to his head, but some of his behaviors have rubbed me the wrong way.
First of all, he has one joke, and it's not even funny, and probably somewhat insulting to all the people here.
Whenever anybody on twitter asks him something along the lines of "would you recommend getting into menswear?" or "would you say menswear has improved your life?", he fires back with a snarky comment something like "No. I have wasted enormous amounts of money and time arguing on forums with 40-year-old divorced men who I don't know and refuse to ever meet", which sounds to me like a backhanded insult to this forum in particular, bordering on ladder-pulling now that he has a massive twitter audience, most of which know comparatively little about menswear compared to users here and won't be able to critically discuss things on his level.
Not only does it show a total lack of respect or gratefulness for where he likely got a large amount of his knowledge which he now flaunts in front of millions, but it also irritates me personally seeing the largest ambassador of menswear to ever have a "social media presence" so quickly shrink back in that typical millennial strain of neurotic, ironic self-deprecation whenever he's given a chance to advocate for what he claims to. It's honestly kind of cowardly, especially given that he almost never posts his own outfits on his twitter account or makes an effort to use himself as an example for anything.
I called him out for this, in a pretty mild manner mind you, and he immediately blocked me.
I soon learned I wasn't the only one, as going through other menswear twitter accounts recounting their interactions with Derek it became clear that Derek has one of the easiest blocks this side of the entire fashion netspace.
I don't want drama, I don't want people harassing or attacking Derek, as I still think all things considered he has a lot of good takes and opinions on clothing, but man, I wish he'd learn to show some pride in himself, and the rest of the menswear community by extension, instead of sarcastically putting himself down and worse, insulting his roots, and then blocking anyone who dares criticize him.
What gives, man? Why are you like this?
If this is too much "stirring the pot" for this forum that's totally fair and I'll go ahead and delete this thread.
(I just came back here after getting kicked out of quite possibly the worst tangentially-menswear-related discussion imaginable over on 4chan, causing me to wonder why I don't use this site more instead of slumming it up with those psychos, and I don't wanna risk another kick to my still raw and aching backside. Don't take this as me coming back purely to start drama, please.)
