Each has its place. I think these are great. Some of the best in the thread.

These are great. 5 eyelets might be a little more traditional (English?), but the pebble grain, color and that beautiful F last is what matter most. Noice.

Yes, that is F last.

I originally wanted 5 eyelet pebble, then changed to 3 eyelet brown shell. But they ran out of the brown shell, so I switched back to pebble, but stayed with 3 eyelets. I don't know, there is a lot of vamp there, something inside is telling me I should have done 5.

Be daring! Three eyelets are more adventurous. Besides, I have two pairs of
three eyelet derbies, one in buffalo, one in suede, sadly not Vass. Vass can't
fit me RTW.

You may check budapester.de for some more pics and specs of those, I picked some interesting models for the thread.
Partly I'm with ed though (if he's serious^^) and am not such a Vass devotee like most forumites.

The one difference - I got a medallion on the swan neck. Is that Italian polish?

at my private trunk show for "operation paprika" we discussed the last shapes of the different examples. one friend of mine mentioned: the "face" is an important parameter for the balance of a shoe.

imo, your inner voice is correct.

three eyelet = ford edsel
five eyelet = eleanor

My fear would be that pants will hide the lacing altogether, leaving an expanse of brown pebble that looks a little shapeless. The lacing is often the wingman of a shoe, but for a plain-toe, sometimes the wingman has to step up and close the deal.
