anyone have any idea of where to get onyx cufflinks at a reasonable price....say around 100?

Kent Wang is still out of stock

Jos bank are affordable & actually not terrible. real onyx and fixed (not swing) back. Ignore retail price & don't pay more than 50-70% off.

However, I thought I wanted black studs, but after seeing them on realized they break up the white of the shirt too much. (I'm a small size and my chest+jacket looks better with the unbroken space.) Will switch to mop or fly front.

That's a good point about continuity. I like something with MOP but my reasoning has to do with having a midnight tux.

Another option that I saw on the barney's warehouse site were plain sterling. Could be interesting (some contrast but not as much as onyx) and they're almost 70% off; about $200 for two links and four studs. Good deal in my opinion.

^This is hat I would do if I was in the market. If they are older than 20 or 30 years, they are typically of better production and the value to cost ratio is outstanding. That said, there is something lovely about shiny and new sometimes :)

I have vintage sterling and gold stud sets I picked up on eBay. I think they just add a bit more character to my dinner jacket.

Decided to pull the trigger on some BT-specific shoes; something that I'll wear a few times a year and will last forever. Wanted a slip-on but NOT a pump and shiny, but NOT patent so I went with these:

I debate whether I could wear them with a regular suit for evening functions, but they're intended for formalwear.

Those are fine for BT and I would reserve them for those occasions.

Yes, that's the direction in which all the evidence points. I have plenty of other black shoes for non-formalwear and I have a feeling when I see them in person they'll definitely scream "tux-only).

Perfect for black tie, and I wouldn't hesitate to wear them with a conservative suit either.

Question on mixing metals: Given the yellow tones (these are sterling with MOP center and eggshell enamel), could i wear these studs with plain oval yellow gold cufflinks, or better stick to the pair from the set (or plain sterling)?
