Here's my recent score, a Canali sports jacket. It's a lightweight wool, 3 button, side vents. Sadly it's a little too big for me (a EU 54 which is 44R).

They're junk. He was pointing out how silly thrift stores get their boutique pricing hilariously wrong.

I do think we get too used to that, though - I recently paid 12.50 for a Canali super120's suit for myself and walked out feeling angry/annoyed/consternated that they jacked the price up on the RIGHT item this time - and then I had to repeat to myself "you just paid 12.50 for a canali that's now the best suit you own!" Little dose of reality!

Amen to that. I bought a NWT Brioni shirt a couple weeks ago, and I was kinda complaining to myself that they wanted $15. Then I remembered I used to spend more than that for shirts at the Gap.

I am thankful that at most places, their idea of what constitutes a boutique item is far different from mine.

That's how thrifting works. If you had never come here you would be really happy with your purchase. Reading this stuff gives you a whole new perspective.

I found a Polo University Club blazer for $6 and thought I was doing great, then a week later found a Brooks Brothers charcoal suit that fit me perfectly for $6. Topping that, each of my Samuelsohn blazers and the Norman Hilton were no more than $5 each. I'm getting better!

My first suit was a Polo University Club that I bought in college in the early '90's for interviewing and it was worth every penny.

Half price at a lot of thrift stores today. Yesterday I scored a Brioni linen shirt for $1, Nat Nast silk shirt $4, Malo polo shirt $4 and a new Kuhlman SC made in Italy for $5.

Happy Hunting!

When H-F can be called "low-end" you are indeed operating in a rarefied atmosphere. H-F is one of the finest American made suits, and older models can be quite well made.

One of my first thrifted suits was an older H-F, in perfect shape. I still have it. I found a wonderful 'Mad Men' style H-F last year that I love. Sure, I pass on Hickey all the time these days, but they can be very nice if they are styled well.
