Gonna xpost this in the secrets to ID the maker thread.

I know if a garment is made in US, I'll look up the RN in the US database and similar goes for CA that are made in Canada. What about the European counter part? Where's their database so I don't have to memorize the makers' tag.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I posted it on the bay last night at £425 BiN or offers. I accepted an offer today of £350. Not a bad mark up from a £7.50 outlay.

I sold a C&L navy pinstripe suit in January that had been tailored for the same guy, so I sent a message to the buyer of the January suit and he bit.

The only downside today is: the T&A shirt that I sold on Sunday for £112 is coming back to me. The Finnish guy who bought it obviously didn't read the measurements I tabled, so I've sent a 2nd chance offer to the Japanese guy who was shooting it out with him.

    Hey ho,

Don't worry. That looks like the licensed stuff made by Hickey Freeman. Still good quality; most HF is. But not the Savile Row stuff.

Good to know. Once I started seeing holes I didn't want to look at the makers tag. Ignorance is bliss right?

I gotta post before androfan hits.

First off, thrift fit from yesterday. All thrifted/SF-acquired

    Vintage PRL SC
    CT shirt
Almost no-name (Halpern, Esq. anyone?) tie
    Canali linen pants
    Dack's shoes

Outside but the white balance was off. There's a bit more distinction between the SC and the trousers.

I took the day off to get some car repairs done. They ended up keeping my vehicle and giving me an old Echo for the weekend, with AC but no power anythings (windows, doors, mirrors), but I managed to hit a handful of places.

First off, for Fueco and all you bike riders, a local handmade tie. If anyone wants it, let me know. I'll see if it's there tomorrow.

    SPOO Signal

I'm 99.999% certain this is some sort of diffusion line but it's not something I ever see.

Jean Paul Gaultier JPG Paris. Kind of nice cut if you like things that shimmer.

Some BB hangers for a fellow member.

    On to the ebay fodder.

    Z Zegna suit, recent cut.

    Banana Republic staple gray suit.

Very beautiful but very huge Samuelsohn blazer.

Vintage Harris Tweed with hacking pockets, ticket pocket, elbow patches and throat latch.

    Canali Proposta SC, wool/cashmere blend.

The Territory Ahead, suede blazer/jacket. Never heard of it but they seem to do fair to well on ebay.

Very small (Sz. 6) Bean Boots in mint condition. Not entirely sure of the vintage. They are, at any rate, Made in USA.

Anyone know anything about fur? I found a Fur Coat today that has "Fromm" on the interior label. Apparently its one of the better fur coat makers and there is a Fromm Museum :nodding:

damn this thread moves fast... barely less than 24 hrs since I checked in and there are 81 posts? I will say you are the most friendliest bunch on the side of MC. Hardly any hissfits or self proclaimed style gods to troll on the rules of thrifting.

I still have no clue how to tell if a suit is dated. The difference between what's desirable and not seems to which decade it's from, not how dated it is.

^ It seems to be late 80s through 90s that yields most of the dated stuff posted here. Things to watch out for with suits and jackets are low buttoning point, low gorge, built-up shoulders, 4- and 6-on-1 double breasteds, lack of rear vents, exceedingly wide lapels. With pants, big ol pleats. With ties, ugly geometric prints and 3.75-4" widths (ie most of the Zegna ties in thrift store existence it seems).

Pretty much anything that would have been worn on the 90s sitcom Frasier.
