finally got my two new acquisitions in hand, but there are two things i noticed:

there's a small split in the welt (i think that's what it's called?) of my right chelsea boot

there's an even smaller one on the left boot, too, in the same area

is this something i should pay any attention to at all? like, it's not gonna get worse over time, is it? that the splits are in the same area on both boots makes me think that it just comes with the manufacturing process, but i don't know, i'm worried that it might get bigger if it's not supposed to be there

on another note, the "tan" suede (color code: 1302) looks a lot different in person than in its product shots (not a complaint, just an observation)

it's more of a taupe color than tan, though i haven't seen it in sunlight yet so i guess i'll check again tomorrow

as for the derbies, there's a warp along the ankle of the left shoe

it's a lot more pronounced and noticeable in person than in the pictures, but is this unusual at all or something worth fretting over?

i definitely have the propensity for being nitpicky, so these are probably non-issues, but idk

send them back.

@OccultaVexillum

hey, thanks! you also own the derby shines, right? mine fit slimmer than even my achilles and i feel it on my right foot's pinky toe especially

do they just need to be broken in? did yours stretch out to where they're comfortable, or will they always be slightly tight?

unfortunately, they're longer than by a thumb's width already, so i don't think i could go a size up

@ike_hiking_boots

the derbies?

That split is normal. It's not a defect or anything, it's intended, I would assume to allow the sole to flex more freely/naturally.
Not sure they are that normal. I do have them on one my of chelseas and I once got a pair with quite a few splits and took it back to the store. My other black chelseas doesn't have any splits nor do my CP combats which have the same soles.

What do you all think about the treaded sole winter combat boots? I had a pair with a fading white sole and loved them, so now I'm torn between winter and crepe. Though I feel like treaded sole almost puts them into docs territory

edit: a word

just received my first pair of mono black achilles in 5-6 years from end, thankfully the sizing seems the same as my old pairs. the leather does feel slightly thinner, but it's not as bad as i expected. if anything, it's the laces that feel coarser and 'worse' quality. the gold numbering also seems thicker and more prominent.

unfortunately the pair i received has a small white discolouration on the toe, emailed them back to see what to do. shipping them back from australia will be a headache, i guess they might offer a minor discount to keep them.

I just picked up the WInter Combat Boots in black leather (I believe they are also avaiable in the Bordeaux colour, but don't know who stocks them?) and I love them. I don't think they look like DMs! The toe box is slightly different to the Standard Combat Boots, the profile of the commando sole is very noticable as it comes right to the edge, I think I would of prefered a recessed tread but it's grown on me. The leather is very nice on these boots and I'm really looking forward to wearing them this winter – just flip a coin if you can't decide between crepe or tread : )

if they are black leather could this not be fixed with black polish? perhaps post a picture here so we can see how bad it is.

have you checked END's return policy? I know they offer free returns in the UK. END's customer service is one of the best, I'm sure they will sort this out for you.

Anyone have real life pics of the black suede chelseas? (The ones that have the black sole)
I've a pair but there loads of photos already online. They aren't black but more dark grey and under certain lighting there is a slight purple tint to them

Thanks, I saw some pictures online. Just wanted to see some more. The sole is dark enough not to stain like the tans, correct? How have yours held up overall?

i contacted them w a photo and they basically said i could return them for an "assessment" - if they thought it warranted a return, they would exchange the pair, otherwise they'd send it back. i decided just to keep them, so i guess i'll give the polish a try. cheers.

edit: they just refunded 10% which was nice.

I had mine over a year but I don't wear them much, maybe 3/4 times a month. So they're in good condition, very little wear on my soles. The soles are black, so no dirty will show up.

Here is a photo of my pair

Need some sizing guidance for the Chelsea boots.
Measure size 8 on Brannock.
7.5 in chucks, 8.5 in Vans, 7.5 in Alden Barrie

Suggestions?
