Cork question. How long until it compresses? If you are buying a vintage shoe you expect to recork and resole. But if a second hand shoe with only a 'few' wears, (how to define this?) when do we expect the cork to set? thanks

Your comment makes me think this could be an interesting topic of discussion for the group:

What would the Aldenites here consider a few of “the best” runs of shoes/boots and why?

Obviously this is purely subjective and there are no rights or wrongs, and note I said “a few”.

I’ll fire the first salvo (or second after @Alcibiades). I’ve been fortunate to own more than my fair share of exotics, and they don’t even rate a mention compared to the Color 8 Epaulet Brixtons from eight or so years ago. You guys are probably sick of me posting the same pics from this run, but why is it so special to me? The most flawless and unique grape-colored Color 8 shell, a perfect wingtip-patterned boot, flat(?) welt for a smooth and sleek look, and easily the richest and nicest edge dressing that paired perfectly with the color of the shell. And flawlessly executed. Not a sloppy stitch or blemish to be seen. Perfection in my book. Pure magic.

Hit us with your favorites.

My favorite pair so far is still my stock 994s (these are also my oldest pair of Aldens, bought in early 2004, IIRC):

For me, the best make-up of the last several years was Citishoes’ Ravello Jumper. The shade of Ravello was incredible and the jumper pattern was perfect.
Sadly, I never got these, but I did admire from afar....

I was lucky enough to have a friend pass along his pair to me after he got the ravello jumper from AoM. I agree that the shade on these citi jumpers is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

Isn't it funny, that we all are listing shell, rare or not, as the best of Alden, when probably the 405's are the workhorse of the brand, and going to outlast damn near everything else.
