Black shell is great. Many people here don't wear black much, and they also love the added color variations of non-black colors. I have three pairs of black shell - a Allen Edmonds Park Ave and Higgins Mill, as well as the new slip on chukka I posted here yesterday evening. One thing to note - black shell isn't as black as other blacks. Many people call it a black jelly bean as it's almost a very dark grey. I think it looks great, but again, I just don't need that much black. I have 6 total pairs of black out of 70+ pairs.Just out of curiosity, and want to know learn. What do you guys think of cordovan loafer with black color?
I see most of cordovan loafers are #8 or cigar in SF. Does cordovan in black color consider not preferable?
Good call! I'm holding off on purchases for a bit, but I might try to get on a pre-order later this year. There is always the NST monk on plaza from AoM and Brogue!
Beautiful. These look color 4 to me!After 3 months of sun fading these two Color 8 pairs, my “Sunrello” shoes are at the perfect color for me.
The color is somewhere between Ravello and Mocha. A nice red/brown mixture.

Not loafers but I have three boots. For me the key requirement is being unglazed. Glazed black shell starts approaching a patent leather look which I am not found of as I dress casual.Do you guys own cordovan loafer in black?
Oh, thanks! You reminded me of my other black pair! Your antique edges comment reminded me of my black shell Leeds with chili edges. I almost bought a pair of black shell Patriot seconds, but they were from different pairs and the hand stitch didn't match. My Alden collection definitely leans to the more casual side and I currently only have one pair of black shell (unlined Dovers). I'm not sure if it has as much to do with the color black as it does me not being big on monotone makeups generally, which most black shell makeups are. I'm a big fan of antique edges on Color 8, brass/nickel eyelets and speedhooks, contrast stitching and other similar details that draw the eye.
