ITT: we rank the intersection of SF and the real world on a scale of 1-10.

First: I was walking on First Street in Hoboken one rainy Friday morning recently. Across the street I noticed a man in a suit with an umbrella. And a pocket square.

And Swims.

Orange Swims.

9/10 on the SF Scale - dinged for no raincoat.

i had that problem. i found a super unstylish vinyl? lightweight raincoat. its very long, reaches my galoshes so even the cuffs of my pants stay dry. untill i take it off i look like no sf'er should. but its practical so i wear it. its one of the few times function trumps form for me.

Wait, Swims overshoes I approve of, those monstrous looking things that are the bastard love child of a pair of Crocs and Gucci loafers need to be crucified.

No-one right thinking SFer has a problem with Swims - I just think that wearing orange ones with a suit in New York is coming out of the SF fantasy world into the real world a little too much.

I am personally against Swims. I think any kind of galosh ruins the finish and smudges up the shoes. Even with the soft lining. I find them cumbersome and ugly. I just have designated shoes to wear in bad weather.

put clean plastic grocery bags over you shoes first. tie a half knot with the handles around your ankles. the galoshes slide on easily and it prevents any damage to your shoes. works like a charm each time for me.

No raincoat or overcoat made out of heavy "almost weather resistant" tweed?

Sorry, that is half-assed SF. 6/10
