I've been wearing them just shy of 3 months, so I don't want to wash them.

However, they smell terrible after the incident. I've tried febreeze but now they just smell like febreeze and fish oil.

Is there any way to clean affected area (crotch) without having to wash them early and compromise the work i've put in ?

Hmm. If I were to wash them, what would be the preferable method? inside-out, woolite dark, gentle cycle, hang-dry ?

any disadvantages to dry-cleaning them ?

I also never 'soaked' these denim, should I have done that right when I bought them?

dude, just wet the stained area and pad it with napkin to avoid indigo loss, do this process a few times and most of the sauce will come out to the napkin as fish sauce is water soluble. After that, hang dry and febreeze to get rid of the smell.

my god what is wrong with you people

I will tell you what is wrong with these people...the Philistines in this thread don't know the difference between Vietnamese fish sauce and Thai-style fish sauce!

Just wash them. When your crotch smells like nam pla itstime for a wash.

The original poster spilt Vietnamese fish sauce on his jeans...This sauce is called Nuoc Mam. It is not Nam Pla! Nam Pla is Thai-style fish sauce (Pla = fish, nam = sauce)...Nuoc Mam is slightly thinner and saltier than Nam pla, and because of it's higher glutamate/sugars ratio, it is harder to remove residual odours and stains from clothing if spilt than Nam Pla, which can probably be removed by a simple washing of the stained area...

I say just wash 'em. Do it by hand if you want to be gentle about it. You might not even need to use detergent to get rid of the smell.

There's a lot of voodoo that gets tacked on to raw denim, but truth told it's about as mundane as it gets. Water will remove some of the dye. If you go about washing them gently, they won't lose a whole lot. They'll still fade after a wash, it won't ruin them.

Plus...you won't smell like fish sauce. Nobody want's to smell like fish sauce.

Holy ****. Put. Them. In. The. *******. Washing. Machine. You will not ruin your pants. Believe me. I know. What you just did was probably worse. Now you'll have jeans that smell like goddamn fish sauce and a questionably-shaped stain on your pants. Girls are going to think that you came all over yourself, and that your ***** smells like rancid fish.

One time in college I threw up on a pair of new standards. Do you know what I did? I ******* washed them.
