Slimmer ties

ok...searching for "slim ties" "3 inch ties" and every possible combination of that has not proven to be very fruitful, so here goes...

As you may have guessed from the title, I'm looking for some ties which are basically 3 inches +/- maybe 1/4". Since I'm short, I've found regular ties don't really do me justice, whereas slimmer ones help. For cheap stuff, I realize my only option right now is ebay, but searching for "skinny tie" or w/e just gives me a crap load of stuff that I can't be too sure about in terms of quality. So what exactly should I search for? Any specific brands I should be searching for? I'd ideally like to spend about $20 per tie.

P.S. - if any forum member has a 3" tie to give away to a starving student, I'll be glad to take them off your hands

J.Crew and Ralph Lauren Polo have many narrow ties that are 3", with the latter being the better made. I buy mine on ebay in the $20-50 range instead of paying the full retail.

I just bought a J Crew tie for $8 on sale. I saw a sweater for 75% off what I paid last month too grr!

The tie is 3.25" though, so I will take it in myself or send it off to tiecrafters.
I don't consider anything over 3" to be narrow.

I sell skinny ties from time to time. Nordy Rack sometimes has Ben Sherman or Penguin skinny ties for cheap. The penguin one I got is one of my faves and it was only $7 or so. Zara has slim ones, but they are about $35.

What color ties do you want? I have 2 I altered myself that I don't want that are from Macy*s. One is a pretty bright purple with blue dots and the other is an olive green argyle. They have been altered to about 2.5-2.75". They aren't the best, but whatever, you can have them.

Jcrew's hit or miss...I'm not about to pay $50 for J crew if I can get something better for cheaper...I got a repp from them for $8 too...though ended up a little more after shipping but w/e

I actually just want some solids and maybe some wool ones...is it wool? It's the sort that they've had recently at jcrew that feels like a suit does...rougher than the others.

Tiecollector...yes please! Can you PM me info?

Hi Migo

And don't forget about thrifting, although they will be less than $20. You can find some pretty nice ties from 1" up to some 4-5" beauties.

You'll have to spend time going through a lot of ties, but you might find some pretty cool ones.

Heck, at thrift store prices, you can even try your hand at slimming down ties to your preferred size--it's been done by folks on this forum.

cheers

Yeah thrifting can be awesome. I keep going and end up buying some 2.25" - 2.5" art deco print ties from the 50s or so. Most thrift stores I go to don't have very good tie selections. The one I keep going to actually specializes in antiques but they do have quite a few women's furs and various clothing accessories. The ties are in pretty good condition, every once in a while I will have to re-stitch a seam myself but the ties end up costing me $15 bucks, which is a little on the pricey side for thrifting but I liked the ties a lot.

I get my slim ties at a variety of places. With my widest being 3 inches, and my narrowest being 1.5 inches. I've gotten these everywhere, from thrift stores, to wal-mart, my local menswear store, even at a womens store my girlfriend goes to. Aside from a $80 Dior tie I have, the most expensive was $25,I got it at La Chateau,it's 2 inches wide. The cheapest were 3 for $10 at a womens store called ardenes, which is a smaller afilliate of the larger company Claires.

With Hermes he would be quite limited concerning material and style...the only Hermes that are in the slimmer area would be the thin twillpops (3,15") and the Liverpools (2,75") that mostly come in relatively very special styles and I pretty sure that even on ebay they wont be availabel for 20$.
