The way I understand it, it is permissible to show examples of (advertise) your wares as long as the vast majority of your posts are not advertising and contribute to the forum in a useful fashion.

If you want to mainly advertise, you need to become an official sponsor.

The Unlucky leather thread was likely closed for the same reason. Threads can exist for appreciation by other members for free, but for someone to tote their wares here, they need to pay affiliate fees
