Hello. My new suit came without sleeve buttons. The original buttons are the medium grey ones on the left.
I like the traditional bevelled middle and rim edge shape. I have enough large buttons for the front of jacket but no 23L small ones (top left) for sleeves. I like the way the darker grey matches the check lines and that the buttons have a matte finish. I think they are corozo but might be dyed horn? Or, are they just plastic?
I cannot source matching buttons easily. I would have thought grey buttons would be easy to find but no. I can travel to a supplier who has very similar corozo or fake horn buttons as I want to see in person but the cost of that plus buttons would be £50+.
Does anyone know a supplier I can try in UK?
My local haberdashery has the lighter buttons on the right. They are plastic but with a matte finish and cost only £2 for a whole set.
I'm not sure about the shape as they are flat with no rim and only a slight indentation in the centre but the colour blends with the fabric well to my eye. This is a summer suit to look smart but not for formal/business occasions. Could I even wear a jacket in this fabric with other trousers occasionally?
The suit is a luxury quality so I don't want to cheapen it with the wrong buttons. To my eye the light colour with grey swirl blends well with the fabric and they are a nice matte, not shiny plastic.
The light buttons are about 0.5mm wider in diameter than the standard ones. Not sure if that will be a problem for button hole machine at tailor?
I can get the tailor to fit the light ones and see how it looks as I can always change them in future. If you more experienced guys think the light ones are wrong then I'll make a trip to the supplier.
I would be interested if there is any back story to the button shape on the left as I have not seen it before.
