Hoping either Isshy or someone else can assist with the type of leather used in these shoes... as well as any other info about them. The leather has the grain that you see, and then it also has a long line grain that is harder to spot... each shoe has maybe 3 or 4 of these longer "lines" running the long way on the shoe. I am not familiar with this grain, so not sure if it's something other than calf.

Foot-Joy hand lasted wholecuts.

Soft like a sledgehammer...

Mine are pretty tough...not supple.

Some pictures of gator and ostrich at the local shop with some stupid prices. Gators were about US$ 1,800 with a 70% reduction already .

You sure? I've felt buffalo hide and it was quite supple and I thought that one of the unique characteristics was its strength despite its suppleness.

Depends on the tanning processes. A lot of Bison...to distinguish it from water buffalo...is "deer tanned" and very soft. But some is tanned just like calf or cow and can be just as firm.

Additionally, leathers like bison are often shrunken to compact the fiber mat. This can accent or even create the pebbled texture.

Ok, maybe somebody has some information, or can add some validity to this... My friend went on a date with this girl he met online and she said that as a hobby she is into tanning small batches of leather and making little accessories with it. Ok, this is pretty cool, but she also claims that recently she go into this new kind of tanning where one of the steps involves smearing smushed rat brains onto the hide. Is this a real thing, or is this girl planning on smearing my friends brain onto some cow hide in the near future?

Edit: Holy ****, I think I answered my own question... http://www.braintan.com/articles/furs/miller1.html

Every critter has enough brains to tan it's own hide, except buffaloes (and some people I know).

These are really nice: last as well as color. Do you know what size these were? I assume it was a blake construction?
