Bought the Boston loafer in dark brown country grain last Spring and the Islay this Fall. As God is my witness, I will have the Brecon Chukka and Pembroke in dark brown grain before I find my release from this mortal coil.

As a proud owner of the Pembroke in dark brown Scotch grain I can testify to it's divine character, even with two different socks ?

recently got the C&J coniston in rough-out, finding them fairly uncomfortable. I've worn them about 10-15 times, definitely getting better than it was at the start but still very stiff. Anyone know if the material loosens up over the months or is it always likely to be a pretty stiff boot? Others say Coniston is quite comfortable so it might be the roughout itself. Any thoughts appreciated.

My RO Conistons have become more comfortable with break-in, maybe 30 wears now, and are an all day boot, no problem. But it's a pretty stiff boot in general, especially the toe box. If anything, I have heard that the scotch grain is stiffer than the RO, but I don't have experience with the grain - just my beloved Black Editions. Of course there is the whole issue of whether you have a good fit.
