Got my Armfields and Ramseys today, both in a UK 11F. The Armfields are feeling like a better fit width-wise. Should I bother sizing up 1/2 size on the Ramseys or just return them and look for a better fitting double monk? Honestly not sure how much the width will stretch over time at the ball of the foot. Both shoes are perfect lengthwise and in the heel area.

Also, seems like the instep on AS shoes is relatively high? At least compared to my AE 5 lasted shoes which is a great thing for me.

For what it's worth most ppl do size up half for Ramsey.

Hey guys,

For AS exclusive, do you go down a full or half size down form your U.S. Size?

Full size for me except 99 last which is half. Can't recall offhand exactly what my other lasts are although I know I have 724 and 87.

I have Ramsey, Armsfield and Moore all 1/2 size smaller than US and all fit so well. I just received the hunt and it's the first AS not to fit like a glove. Seem a bit longer because my heel is slipping out.
For reference I go a full size down on all my Crockett and Jones except for the 348 last which just doesn't like me :) I think it's because of my high instep.

You're welcome Dembowski. I'm quite sure that the type of oak leather used in the Holmes II and Radwell are actually the same however leather can differ from batch to batch even if from the same tannery. I have used a combination of different polishes though on both shoes this could also matter. Generally the Radwells would be a bit darker.

Thanks yes I must admit I love Alfred Sargent so every time there is an opportunity I'll choose AS. From speaking to people who have knowledge of the shoe industry we believe AS and C&J are pretty much in the same league. Personally I think AS lasts are great hence no urge to try C&J. People on styleforum compare AS exclusive to C&Js handgrade. When AS we're making their handgrade... They really were special.
It comes down to personal preference in the end.

If I had to try another brand it would be Gaziano and Girling or St Crispin. ..but they're about double the price compared to AS exclusive. ..

NH21 - following your advice I have managed to buy my first Saint Crispin Model 105 on Chiseled last on eBay. Brand new with small marks on leather. I paid for them + original shoes trees, bags and box, the equivalent of the regular AS price:

Another quick sizing question --

How is the fit of the Ramsey (99 last) vs. the double monks that J. Crew offers (87 last)?

Also, are the sizes that J. Crew has listed on their website 1/2 a size down from the written UK size on the shoe (e.g. US 12D = 11.5F UK)? Thanks in advance.

I have been going down half from my US sizing & it worked very well for me.

I actually should have taken this advice for the Armfield vs. what AFPOS offered (sizing a full size down). Hopefully the cobbler can stretch them enough. I'm probably going to purchase the Armfields in 11.5F and the Ramseys in 12F on my next order (I'm a US12D/E).

Yes buying from Jcrew stick to your normal US sizing & Ramsey just go half down work very well

But if I'm going down 1/2 a size in the Armfields shouldn't I get the same UK size in the Ramseys as my US size?

Well whatever your US sizing is take same if you are buying AS from jcrew. If you are buying AS from UK just go,half size down & that would work for Ramsey & other AS shoes. That has been the case for me, I have 99 last & 106 last shoes from no man walk alone & 9UK worked very well & I am US 9.5D which worked very well for AS jcrew shoes. Hope this helps bud.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help,

One final question -- how is the quality of the AS JCrew shoes compared to the Exclusive line?
